This tempranillo was handpicked during dawn along the westside of the Mendocino National Forest in its upper Round Valley, where you find Claus vineyard with its continental climate and seasonal temperatures. Among the valley’s lower foothills are alluvium soils, chaparral vegetation, grasslands, and scattered oaks. The wine was fermented for nine days on the skins, pressed into a tank for one week and later gravity fed into French neutral oak barrels and aged for 14 months. This tempranillo has notes of dark fruits, slight tannins, earthy notes and is best with grilled meats and vegetables.

Ashanta, meaning “thank you to the ancestors,” highlights organically and consciously farmed grapes, forages fruits found in unexpected spaces, and creates a beverage that feels familiar, natural, and reminds us of the wisdom of the earth.
