EMBRYO II 2021
ASHANTA | 2023 Syrah red
Ashton Vineyard, Occidental CA
13%
This red wine comes from Sonoma Valley and was hand harvested by family and friends, which is central to its origins. After hearing stories of his grandfather who made wine, Chenoa’s grandfather was inspired to do the same and in 1980 he started a vineyard on a hillside plot next to their family home. 37 years later, the plot would be the only surviving site after a 2017 fire destroyed the remaining property. In 2019, Ashanta Wines produced their first wine in this same site. This red wine's second iteration was crushed into an open top fermenter and crushed twice a day by hand for two weeks before being pressed into a French neutral oak barrel where it aged for 8 months.

Ashanta Wines
Ashanta Wines is a natural wine making project inspired by the resilience of vines impacted by the changing seasons, local fires, and floods that impact our ability to live, taste, and be joyous. Ashanta, meaning “thank you to the ancestors,” highlights organically and consciously farmed grapes, forages fruits found in unexpected spaces, and creates a beverage that feels familiar, natural, and reminds us of the wisdom of the earth.
